Almost 94 percent of Oxfordshire children applying for infant or junior school places have obtained a spot at their top-selected establishment for the next school year, with 99.2 percent being offered a position at one of their shortlisted institutions.

Formal government figures for this admissions round will be published at a future point.

Sean Gaul, the Oxfordshire County Council portfolio holder overseeing children’s services, education and young people’s provisions, said the early stages of childhood serve as an essential springboard for later progress, which is why ensuring primary placements match what families want remains a key priority.

He added that youngsters will require time to become accustomed to their fresh surroundings, and expressed satisfaction that most candidates were allocated their preferred option.

He also acknowledged the efforts of council employees who contributed to securing this outcome.

When interest in a particular establishment exceeds the number of vacancies, some households may not secure their initial choice. Those unhappy with their allocation have until mid-May to submit an appeal.

Pupils can additionally join waiting lists for desired schools should positions become available before the autumn term. Waiting list processing gets under way in late June.
