A bakery in South Oxfordshire has won three prizes at a prestigious national competition, including the top honour of Britain’s Best Loaf.

Imma The Bakery, based in Stoke Row near Henley, secured three additional victories to add to its expanding collection of accolades for its outstanding baked goods.

The business was crowned Ultimate Champion at Britain’s Best Loaf 2026, which took place at NEC Birmingham on Tuesday, April 14 and was organised by the British Baker publication.

As well as the Britain’s Best Loaf accolade, Imma triumphed in the international category for its Cantabric Ogi or Basque Baguette, and in the innovation category for Breadso, a loaf featuring miso and sesame, with the miso crafted from the bakery’s own surplus bread.

The result was described as a defining moment for proprietor Tona Erreguin, who still holds the baker of the year title from the Baking Industry Awards.

Coming shortly after the release of Imma’s Radical Tradition document, which advocates a return to extended fermentation methods and the preservation of biological integrity in grain, the victory for Cantabric Ogi provided physical evidence of the successful new direction.

Ms Erreguin said winning Britain’s Best Loaf with a bread that embodies their philosophy, a bread that leaves no margin for error, represents the ultimate confirmation of why Imma was established.

She added that they maintain the future of British baking lies in the radical tradition, applying the wisdom of the past to create something entirely new.

She explained this accomplishment goes beyond a trophy for a loaf, serving as recognition of the entire bakery team’s unwavering commitment and daily efforts.

Since launching in 2018, Imma has become established as a benchmark for excellence, recently appearing in the Good Food Guide’s Top 50 Bakeries and featuring in the Artisan Collective’s Bakers Dozen, further affirming this status.
