A newly opened brewery and bar in Oxford attracted large numbers of visitors to its riverside site over its inaugural weekend.

The independent BMAN Brewery opened its doors to customers at its fresh taproom at Salters Boatyard close to Donnington Bridge on Saturday, April 11.

Founder, proprietor and head brewer Alex Berryman described the turnout as surpassing what he had anticipated.

He remarked that the venue was considerably more crowded than anticipated and that staff were extremely occupied throughout the day.

Patrons began queuing up to thirty minutes ahead of the midday opening to ensure they could gain entry, as the interior had limited capacity though further seating was offered on the grassy area beside the Thames and in the outdoor section.

The new premises exceed the original location in scale, incorporating a 1,000 square foot brewing facility that has roughly doubled BMAN’s output capabilities and enables nine BMAN beers to be poured at the bar.

Transforming the empty unit into a completely operational taproom and fully equipped brewery proved demanding for the brewer. Mr Berryman observed that preparations were completed under tight time constraints.

Staff remained working until 3am on the preceding night simply to prepare the space.

The atmosphere was described as one where everyone present felt genuine pleasure at being there, which made all the intensive effort worthwhile.

Nevertheless, this represents merely the initial phase for BMAN Brewery, according to the brewer.

He added that further enhancements to improve the venue for visitors remain in his plans.

Extra personnel will support drink service duties, while the Mexican catering vehicle La Cookaracha will commence food provision from the following weekend at earlier times.

BMAN Brewery’s taproom will now welcome guests on a weekly basis, opening on Fridays between 5pm and 10pm alongside Saturdays from noon until 9pm.
