Oxfordshire-linked car sector firms have fallen into administration in recent weeks, with staff losing their jobs as a result.
Administrators assumed control of Bicester’s Hedley Studios Ltd last month, with the Daily Express reporting that the majority of its staff have been dismissed.
Operating as Bicester Motion, the company manufactured scaled-down electric versions of vintage cars and had roughly 70 employees on its books.
The business relocated its registered office from the Oxfordshire business park to Church Street in Birmingham, where Interpath’s professionals are handling the administration.
Originally established under the name The Little Car Company in 2018, Hedley Studios produces vehicles at three-quarters of their original size, with costs beginning at approximately £75,000.
Simultaneously, a British electric vehicle charging business entered administration this week, resulting in 69 job losses.
EO Car Chargers focuses on designing and fitting EV charging infrastructure, software, and provides uninterrupted maintenance alongside incident management services.
The company brought in administrators on Wednesday, April 8, citing difficult trading conditions in recent years as the cause.
The firm sustained losses following its move into overseas territories, including America, Australia, New Zealand, and Italy.
Trading also as EO Charging, the company has produced over 85,000 charging units and installed around 13,000 commercial charging points across roughly 35 countries.
Previously, the firm collaborated with Oxford’s EV Charging Company to supply residential and commercial charging options throughout Oxfordshire.
From the company’s workforce of 93, 69 were made redundant, while the remaining staff continue working to support the orderly wind-down.
Joint administrator and PwC partner Edward Williams said it was regrettable that the company had been left with no alternative but to enter administration, and that 69 employees had unfortunately been made redundant.
He added that the administrators were working to help customers transition smoothly to alternative suppliers with assistance from the remaining staff, before conducting an orderly winding down of the company and seeking to maximize the value of its assets.
