Officers have taken a man from Oxford into custody in connection with what police are calling a robbery at a Tesco automated teller machine, and are urging members of the public to come forward with information.

Thames Valley Police wish to question a white male in his twenties who they believe was the target of the robbery.

An image of this individual has been released to the public. According to the description, he stands around 5 feet 9 inches tall and has a thin physique.

One witness told police that four people surrounded the victim and demanded cash while in possession of a weapon at approximately 11:20pm on the night of February 23.

The Tesco cash machine on Headington Road was where the currency was taken.

A police representative indicated that around 11:20pm on February 23, four people approached the victim as he used the Tesco cash machine on Headington Road and demanded money from him while threatening him with a weapon.

The offenders made off with an amount of cash, although the victim was not hurt.

A member of the public reported the matter, which means officers have not yet been able to obtain a statement from the victim. The victim is described as a white male aged between 20 and 30, of slim build, standing roughly 5 feet 9 inches tall.

The force has confirmed that a 36-year-old man from Oxford has now been held on suspicion of robbery and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

He has been released on police bail until April 22.
