Time is running out for Oxford residents to register to vote.

Anyone hoping to take part in the City Council ballot on 7 May must ensure their details are submitted by midnight on 20 April.

This applies to those who have moved house, changed their name, or become eligible to vote since the last election.

Returning officer Caroline Green said residents should view these polls as an opportunity to influence local representation. She urged anyone still unregistered to complete the process ahead of the deadline. Green explained that voters unable to attend their designated polling place could still participate through postal or proxy arrangements, which offer practical alternatives for those requiring flexibility. She noted the registration process itself is straightforward but advised against leaving it until the last possible moment.

Voters will need to present photographic identification at their polling station, such as passports, driving licences, or certain transport passes. Full details of acceptable documents are available on the Electoral Commission website.

Those without suitable identification can obtain free documentation through the online portal or by returning a paper application to the Council by 5pm on 28 April.

Applications for postal voting must reach the council by 5pm on 21 April, while proxy voting requests need to be submitted by 5pm on 28 April.

Registered electors have already received their poll cards, though these documents are not compulsory for casting a vote.
