A 23-year-old man from Cirencester has received a driving prohibition after pleading guilty to causing serious harm through careless driving in Oxfordshire.

Zachary Baker appeared for sentencing at Oxford Crown Court on April 10, a Friday.

The incident occurred on September 1, 2022, when the defendant was operating a 54-plate Volkswagen Passat on a cul-de-sac branching from Fontwell Road in Bicester. The victim sustained severe injuries as a result.

Baker faced two charges: one for causing serious injury through careless driving and another for failing to remain at the scene following the road traffic collision.

The court imposed a 20-month custodial sentence, suspended for a period of 24 months. Additionally, he must complete 10 days of rehabilitation activities and adhere to a three-month nightly restriction between 7pm and 7am.

His driving privileges have been revoked for three years, with a requirement to successfully complete an extended driving test before regaining licensure. He was also mandated to cover legal expenses totaling £1,630.
