Officers have reported that a man attacked his ex-partner following a series of disagreements and subsequently entered guilty pleas to the offences.

Waheed Amodu strangled the victim, maintained a dominating and controlling relationship with her, and exhibited outbursts of anger and acts of violence against her.

The accused, who is 23 years old, carried out multiple attacks on his former partner between December 5 and December 15, after police attended a report at a property in the Oxford area.

The victim, a woman in her thirties, suffered multiple injuries as a direct result of Amodu’s conduct, according to officers.

Thames Valley Police detective Niamh Meaney explained that Amodu was required to enter guilty pleas due to the compelling evidence available in the case.

He pleaded guilty to a single charge of intentional strangulation, a single charge of assault causing actual bodily harm, and three charges of assault by beating.

At Oxford Crown Court on Thursday, April 4, Amodu, of Diamond Drive in Didcot, was handed a custodial sentence of two years and three months, and an indefinite restraining order was imposed.

Investigating officer Ms Meaney commented that the sentence adequately reflects how serious Amodu’s behaviour was and the harm he was inflicting.

She stated that she wished to recognise and praise the victim of these assaults for displaying bravery by coming forward.

The guilty plea in this case clearly demonstrates how robust and conclusive the evidence was. When faced with such evidence, he had no option but to admit to his criminal conduct.

Amodu was apprehended by officers just before Christmas on December 15, following numerous 999 calls, and formal charges were brought against him the following day.
