Food delivery rider hurt during police chase

Published on

A moped courier was thrown from his machine during a police pursuit on Sunday, April 5.

Traffic officers observed the rider travelling at dangerously high speeds through Oxford’s Iffley district.

When the man declined to halt, law enforcement deployed what they call tactical intervention using their unmarked Volvo V90 to terminate the pursuit of the fleeing courier.

The moped operator subsequently attempted to flee by abandoning his vehicle and sprinting away on foot, though officers rapidly located and arrested him on counts of reckless driving and evading police.

Investigators also uncovered what appears to be cannabis within a food delivery satchel during their examination.

A department representative stated the roads policing team employed tactical intervention to conclude a pursuit involving a swift courier in Oxford, observing that while one can attempt to flee, concealment remains impossible.

The motorcyclist was pursued by a police motorcycle through Oxford’s Iffley area before tactical intervention was deployed to halt the moped.

The individual then opted to attempt evading officers by running away, but dramatically failed to outpace them and was detained for reckless driving and failing to stop.

Officers subsequently discovered multiple packages of cannabis concealed within a food delivery bag on the motorcycle.

The representative added that anyone whose delivery failed to arrive should get in touch.

A 24-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, declining to provide a preliminary roadside assessment, and possessing class B controlled substances with intent to distribute. He remains in police custody.

The delivery bag contained solely class B drugs.
