The Cotswolds community known as Burford is experiencing an electricity outage following network damage.

Residents and businesses in the town have been without power since approximately 6am on Easter Sunday, April 5.

The unexpected interruption is impacting 169 households in the OX18 area, with supply anticipated to be restored by 3pm this afternoon, according to the electricity distributor.

A representative from the energy company expressed regret for the disruption and confirmed that technical staff are working to resolve the issue promptly.

The representative stated: “Our engineers have reached the location and are making every effort to repair the damage and restore your supply as soon as possible.

At this point, we target having your electricity back by 15:00 on 05/04/2026. Should this timeframe change, we will provide an update.

We have received reports of damage to our infrastructure. When such incidents occur, the power supply automatically disconnects to ensure public safety.

Our technical team has identified the exact location of the fault and is focused on making the area safe, repairing the damaged cable, and reconnecting your supply.

These types of failures often necessitate extensive work and specialized teams, including vegetation management personnel, which explains why the restoration timeframe appears extended. Should we be able to restore power ahead of schedule, we will do so.”

A technician is also attending to a separate power interruption in Wallingford, with supply expected to be restored by 4pm.
