A tragic event unfolded on West Bar Street in Banbury on the Friday before Easter, claiming the life of a five-month-old cavapoo—a cross between a Cavalier King Charles spaniel and a poodle. Owner Eddie Reeves described how rapidly the assault occurred, adding that he and his baby were covered in blood.
Officers from Thames Valley Police attended and seized two animals connected to the affair: an American Akita and a French Bulldog.
Reeves, who also sits on Cherwell district council, advised parents with young children or smaller breeds to steer clear of West Bar Street.
He stated that their beloved cavapoo, Coco, lost its life while being exercised through the town with their five-month-old child present. The aggression happened without warning. Both himself and the infant were spattered with blood, though neither suffered any bites. Police were summoned, though the spread of perilous dogs among young men throughout the country remains a serious concern. These creatures ought to be put down.
Witnesses reported that one of the animals approached the pushchair containing the infant, and while the owner protected the child, the other animal emerged and targeted the cavapoo.
Fellow local politicians offered their condolences to Reeves after his beloved companion was killed.
Councillor Andrew Crequestor said the news left him deeply distressed. He described the incident as completely shocking and wished Coco peace, extending his thoughts to Reeves and his loved ones.
MP Sean Woodcock expressed that the situation was extremely upsetting. He conveyed his sympathy to Reeves and his family.
Councillor Simon Weston remarked it was terrifying and expressed confidence that authorities would take appropriate action.
Under British legislation, owners must prevent their dogs from becoming dangerously out of control in any location, whether public or private, which can include actions likely to cause reasonable fear of injury, according to Thames Valley Police.
A Thames Valley Police representative indicated that reports of a dangerous dog incident on West Bar Street in Banbury came in around 9:15am on Friday, April 3.
