Motorcyclist faces inquest after colliding with deer on road

A post-mortem investigation is set to begin next week regarding the passing of a motorcyclist who died in hospital following a crash with a deer on a rural highway.

Yawo Avou, aged 63, who worked as a food delivery rider and lived in Marlow within Buckinghamshire, lost his life due to injuries from the incident on the A4130 Port Hill in Nettlebed, close to Henley-on-Thames, just after 4:50am on October 13 last year.

The motorcyclist had been travelling outbound from Nettlebed toward Wallingford when the creature wandered onto the carriageway and was struck, causing both the rider and his Yamaha FJY 1300 machine to topple onto the tarmac.

The occurrence took place during the night on a countryside route without illumination that was damp, according to earlier accounts from Thames Valley Police.

Mr Avou received urgent care at the location before being taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where he eventually died.

The fatal injuries were attributed to multiple organ failure alongside polytrauma.

Mr Avou, whose origin was Akoumape in Togo, was heading toward his place of employment when the collision with the deer happened.

A coroner’s inquest will look into the circumstances of his death at Oxfordshire Coroner’s Court on April 9 at 10:45am.

Following the crash, the investigating officer, PC Ruan Brink from the Roads Policing Unit, described the incident as very tragic, noting that the motorcyclist was involved in a collision with wildlife on an unlit section of the A4130. He explained that the rider received medical treatment at hospital for his injuries but tragically passed away on the following Thursday. According to the officer, the immediate family were notified and were receiving assistance from specially trained family liaison officers, and he expressed condolences to them during this profoundly difficult period.
