A local elected representative has raised serious concerns about dangerous dogs being out of control following the fatal mauling of his Cavapoo puppy.

Councillor Eddie Reeves detailed the incident taking place on West Bar Street in Banbury, explaining that blood splattered across himself and his baby.

In remarks posted online, the Cherwell district councillor warned parents and small pet guardians to keep away from a particular spot on West Bar Street.

Councillor Reeves described how their cherished Cavapoo, Coco, was killed while out walking in town alongside their five-month-old baby. He stated that the attack occurred in seconds and that he and the child were both covered in blood, though neither received any bites.

He noted that Thames Valley Police were on their way, and expressed concern that the number of young men with dangerous dogs in this country has grown uncontrollably, adding that those animals deserve to be destroyed.

After his post, Councillor Andrew Crichton wrote that he was devastated to hear of this and that it was completely repulsive that this happened. He wished Coco rest in peace and sent his thoughts to Councillor Reeves and his family.

The Banbury MP Sean Woodcock described it as truly terrible and said he was sorry to hear about it, extending his sympathy to Councillor Reeves and his family.

Councillor Simon Weston called it dreadful and said he was upset to read about it, expressing trust that the police would do what was needed.
