A former motor industry television presenter stands accused of ridiculing a young woman’s parking efforts, a national newspaper has reported.

The man, who once worked on Top Gear and The Grand Tour alongside James May and Richard Hammond, has become a well-known face in automotive broadcasting worldwide.

Since around 2008, the TV personality has lived in Oxfordshire, where he runs a farming business near Chadlington and a licensed venue in Asthall, not far from Burford.

More recently, he has built a following through a streaming programme following his stewardship of a thousand-acre countryside estate.

Marianka Swain claims the broadcaster saw her battling to execute a parallel park when she was 19 and reacted with laughter.

A culture and features writer for The Telegraph published her account in the paper the same day.

Employees at the publication had been asked to share notable encounters they had experienced with celebrities.

Ms Swain said the incident occurred in Notting Hill during her seventh effort to parallel park close to where she grew up.

She described hearing someone laughing, looking out to see Jeremy Clarkson doubled over in laughter at her failed attempt.

She said she felt deeply embarrassed. He mounted the kerb and raised his eyebrow as if to say try again badly. She refused.

She said she slumped in her seat and asked her driving instructor to take over. Clarkson let out a loud snort and called out pathetic. He then departed.

Ms Swain said she cannot approach any parking space without Clarkson’s laughter coming back to her.

She admitted he may have had a point and the scene probably was funny, but the experience gave her sympathy for Top Gear contestants who were mocked for their driving skills.
