A prisoner was discovered with banned mobile phones at a facility in Oxfordshire.

Tommy Coates, residing at Southcote Road in Reading, appeared before Oxford Crown Court for sentencing on Friday, March 27.

The 26-year-old admitted guilt to two charges of possessing items while incarcerated at HMP Bullingdon, located close to Bicester.

Court documentation revealed Coates had an iPhone and a Zanco mobile phone inside the prison on July 19, 2025.

The documentation described these as devices “capable of transmitting or receiving images, sounds or information by electronic communications”.

Mr Recorder David Rhodes KC imposed a six-month custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months.

Additionally, Coates was mandated to perform 60 hours of community service within 12 months.
