A school in Oxfordshire has raised £250 for Comic Relief through a charity running event.
The initiative, arranged by Year 11 learners at Oxford Montessori School in Elsfield, drew more than 100 people who covered a two-kilometre distance to gather donations for the children’s charity.
The route wound through nearby woodland and farmland before looping back to the school grounds where food and drinks were available.
Competitors represented every age range, from nursery-age children through to Year 11 pupils, together with parents and school employees.
Daniel Keen, a senior teacher at Oxford Montessori School, said the learners had shown impressive resourcefulness by designing an event and directing their energy towards supporting a charitable organisation.
The run offered a full test of abilities, requiring both their planning capabilities during preparation and their fitness during the actual event.
The school benefits from being set among unique and attractive scenery including forests and fields, and staff aim to use these settings to promote a healthy equilibrium between classroom learning and activities in the open air.
The students deserve praise for arranging such a well-supported and successful occasion.
Six Year 11 students – Isabel Till, Yousuf Mayet, Elijah Watermeyer, Annabel Newman, George Mccullough and Nikolas von Billerbeck – set up the event as part of their studies.
After considerable groundwork, the learners made certain everything ran smoothly on the day.
Isabel said seeing their planning become reality on race day was deeply satisfying, and it demonstrated how vital communication, teamwork and technology abilities are when organising occasions.
She expressed pleasure with the final sum collected and with helping the country increase its charitable contributions.

Oxford Montessori School provides Forest School programmes for younger primary pupils and runs an outdoor scheme for those aged 11 to 14.
