Lowland Rescue Oxfordshire carried out an extensive multi-disciplinary training exercise at Blenheim Palace during recent days.

The programme, coordinated by Thames Valley Police POLSA units, was crafted to mirror a genuine crisis situation, with even senior search coordinators and supervisors kept entirely unaware of the scenario in advance. Responders were alerted through their smartphones at the start, creating a realistic environment.

Ground-based search teams and water rescue crews functioned as coordinated units across the estate, overseen by experienced group commanders. As night descended, the situation developed with fresh complications introduced to challenge those taking part and maintain their involvement.

A spokesperson for Lowland Rescue Oxfordshire said the organisation wished to extend sincere thanks to Thames Valley Police POLSAs, along with the pair of mounted officers and their horses, for adding further realism to the exercise.

Appreciation was also offered to Blenheim Palace and its staff for their continued partnership and permission to use the grounds. The value of this for operational readiness cannot be overstated.

The Operational Support Team provided volunteers who assumed the roles of missing individuals and bystanders, complete with detailed backstories to act out, which further boosted the credibility of the scenarios.

The spokesperson added that exercises of this kind play a vital role in preserving the teams preparedness, expertise, and capacity to deliver an effective response when required.
