Proposals to modify parish boundaries are under consideration as part of a comprehensive review of local governance arrangements.

A review of Community Governance for 2026 is presently underway in the Vale of White Horse area, with officials examining parish boundaries and representation systems to ensure that local councils maintain effective operations and accurately reflect their constituent communities.

The possible changes being assessed include boundary realignments, merging parishes under unified council administration, and updates to reflect recently completed housing developments.

Neil Fawcett, district councillor and cabinet member responsible for corporate services, legal matters and democratic processes at Vale of White Horse District Council, explained that parish councils play a crucial role in shaping the character of residential areas, and it is essential that these bodies keep pace with the development of towns and communities. Whether the objective is ensuring a parish council can serve a growing population or adjusting ward boundaries to reflect new neighbourhoods, gathering feedback from local residents remains fundamental to reaching appropriate outcomes.

One of the ideas being explored involves moving a recently constructed housing development currently located within the Fyfield and Tubney parish to the Kingston Bagpuize with Southmoor parish. Another option being assessed is combining Appleton with Eaton and Besselsleigh under a single parish council.
