A UK-wide initiative has begun to boost emergency first aid skills across the country.

St John Ambulance is seeking 1,500 volunteers to fill emergency responder roles throughout England, with more than 190 posts on offer in the South East area. These people will deliver support at events and within their communities.

Kevin Munday, chief commissioner at St John Ambulance, said becoming a volunteer ranks among the most rewarding opportunities available, and as an Emergency Responder individuals genuinely help during crucial moments.

He explained that volunteers could be the person who brings calm to a distressing situation, administers first aid, or assists someone in getting home safely or to NHS services.

The organisation provides full training, ongoing support, and volunteers join an outstanding team, but what matters most is their compassion, commitment, and willingness to step in when needed.

Kidlington is among the locations where posts are available.

Emergency Responders form part of St John’s frontline first aid and clinical services, delivering essential medical treatment and reassurance.

No prior experience is necessary, as the charity supplies all required instruction and guidance.

Applicants must be aged 18 or over, able to remain composed in challenging circumstances, have clear communication skills, and show enthusiasm for developing new abilities.

Typically, each volunteer gives roughly 100 hours per year, although commitments may vary according to local needs.
