Film-goers in Oxford can look forward to catching acclaimed West End shows as part of a special cinema programme.

Vue Oxford is staging a series of theatrical and operatic presentations to celebrate World Theatre Day on March 27.

The screenings showcase international stage productions adapted for the big screen, featuring performances from the Royal Ballet & Opera and National Theatre Live.

Vue Oxford’s general manager Rachel McNeill said the occasion recognises the creativity, passion and artistic talent that distinguish live entertainment. She explained that these presentations bring the brilliance of some of the world’s most distinguished venues directly to cinema audiences. She added that the venue is pleased to provide theatre lovers with the chance to see outstanding performances presented in an alternative format.

The programme begins on March 31 with Wagner’s Siegfried from the Royal Ballet & Opera archive.

Arthur Miller’s All My Sons, a post-war American drama, will screen on April 16 as part of the National Theatre Live season.

The production stars Bryan Cranston and Marianne Jean-Baptiste in a story examining familial relationships, culpability and moral choices.

On April 21, the Royal Ballet & Opera presents Mozart’s The Magic Flute.

This inventive opera follows Prince Tamino’s quest to rescue Princess Pamina, blending comedy, romance and fantastical components.

The season concludes on April 30 with Funny Girl – The Musical.

The show tells the story of Fanny Brice’s rise to fame and includes signature songs such as Don’t Rain on My Parade and People.
