Former McLaren rivals David Coulthard and Mika Häkkinen are scheduled to appear in Oxford as part of a touring showcase this year.

The retired champions will take to the stage at the city’s New Theatre on Saturday 19 September for An Evening with Racing Icons.

Channel 4’s Formula One presenter Steve Jones will oversee proceedings, with the two drivers recounting tales from their top-level racing careers, their battles on track and the friendship that has continued beyond their competitive years.

Coulthard, nicknamed DC and originally from Scotland, raced in Formula 1 across 15 campaigns. His initial Grand Prix triumph arrived in 1995, and throughout his time in the sport he represented both McLaren and Red Bull.

Across his Formula 1 career, he secured 13 Grand Prix wins, including victories at both the British and Monaco events.

Häkkinen, who hails from Finland, goes by the moniker the flying Finn and is notable for being the sole driver that seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher ever admitted to fearing.

The Finnish racer will recount his career highlights, which encompassed teaming up with the late Ayrton Senna during their time at McLaren, walking away from a serious incident at the 1995 Adelaide Grand Prix, and pulling off his celebrated 190mph overtaking move at the 2000 Belgian Grand Prix—a manoeuvre that supporters have chosen as the greatest in motorsport history.

He will additionally cover his path to clinching back-to-back drivers’ championship crowns in 1998 and 1999.
