Police on scene as emergency unfolds – updates

Police confirmed on Saturday that a man in his twenties has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an assault on a woman in her sixties known to him.

The assault took place in Bicester on Friday afternoon, triggering a major emergency response and resulting in road closures.

Emergency services were called to Fair Close in the Glory Farm estate area late on Friday afternoon.

Several police cars attended the scene alongside ambulance crews and an air ambulance helicopter.

The helicopter, although despatched, returned shortly afterwards to its base at Benson near Wallingford.

Officers then set up a substantial cordon around Fair Close, with emergency services also reported at nearby Churchill Road.

A local resident, who did not give their name, said officials described the event as a very serious incident while declining to elaborate further.

Thames Valley Police also declined to respond to requests for comment.

The same resident said someone had been speaking with officers for thirty minutes, and that person told them it is very serious but they cannot reveal any information.

They asked a police officer directly whether there was an ongoing threat and were informed the situation was under control with no danger to the public.

The cordon has since been removed, though officers remain at the property involved.

Six police cars that were at the scene have now gone, with two remaining while the road has reopened.

Residents are speculating that the incident may have involved a knife, although this has not been confirmed.

Thames Valley Police has again declined to make a statement, with locals left to speculate and unverified reports spreading on social media.

Further information will be released once police provide details about what occurred.
