A man aged 27 from Bicester has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman in her sixties was reportedly stabbed at a home she shared with the suspect.

Emergency services were called to Fair Close in the Glory Farm estate area of Bicester late on Friday afternoon, March 27.

Numerous officers attended the scene in police cars and vans, accompanied by paramedics and an air ambulance.

The helicopter was sent but returned to its base in Benson close to Wallingford shortly afterwards.

Officers set up a large cordon around Fair Close, with emergency workers also attending the neighbouring Churchill Road area.

A Bicester local, who declined to be identified, told reporters that officials were informing residents about a highly serious occurrence but offered no additional information.

The resident stated that after approaching someone who had apparently been talking with police for half an hour, they were informed the situation was extremely serious but no further details could be shared.

Thames Valley Police have now stated that a woman aged over 60 was stabbed by someone she knew at an address on Fair Close.

The attack took place at 4:15pm the day before, leaving the victim with several knife wounds; she has since been discharged from hospital.

A 27-year-old local man remains in police custody in connection with the suspected attempted murder.

Detective Inspector Richard Allmond, from the Oxfordshire Criminal Investigation Department, said authorities want anyone with knowledge of what happened on Fair Close in Bicester to come forward.

He acknowledged that residents would naturally be concerned but assured the public that one person linked to the victim had been apprehended and police were not looking for anyone else, meaning there was no believed risk to the wider community.

He added that investigators were pursuing a comprehensive inquiry to assist the victim, who thankfully suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and appealed for any help members of the public could offer.

Officers have preserved the scene at the address, and locals should expect an elevated police presence throughout the neighbourhood.
