A collection of images from the Oxford Mail’s historical archives featuring the 1990s has been compiled.

One photograph displays the Westgate Centre’s entrance near Bonn Square, which retained its appearance until the 2017 renovation project worth £440 million.

The transformation introduced over 100 additional retail outlets and a rooftop terrace housing dining options, fundamentally changing the centre’s character and giving the entrance an entirely new look.

In 1996, naval aviators were invited to a preview screening of the film Top Gun in Oxford.

The John Lewis flagship store opened as the centre’s primary tenant in 2017.

Among the other decade images selected are Prince Charles’s appearance at Radcliffe Square, military pilots viewing Top Gun at an Oxford cinema, and folk ensemble Magpie Lane’s performance at the Towersey Festival.

Additionally, there was a canine exhibition held in Burford, along with a portrait of headmaster Richard Jones at Hagbourne Primary School close to Didcot.

The image appears to capture education official Graham Badman presenting an award.
