Information has been gathered concerning government proposals that could reshape how the regions are administered.

The examination into reforming local governance for Oxfordshire and West Berkshire finished its period of public consultation on March 26, with a resolution expected in July.

One of the proposals under consideration would create two single-tier local authorities, a concept that has earned support from South Oxfordshire District Council, Vale of White Horse District Council, Cherwell District Council, West Oxfordshire District Council, and West Berkshire Council.

Bethia Thomas, the leader of Vale of White Horse District Council, said that with the consultation phase now complete, she wished to thank everyone who attended the recent information events and all those who provided responses to the government.

She explained that their submission had made a strong case for the two-authority model as the best option and the right choice.

According to her, this presents a remarkable, generational opportunity and they have carefully examined and recorded what will truly benefit their communities in the years ahead.

Maggie Filipova-Rivers, the head of South Oxfordshire District Council, said she was proud of the work undertaken alongside other councils on the two-authority proposal and believes they have made a persuasive case to government about why this approach represents the optimal way forward.

She added that they would keep stakeholders updated following the July decision, and whatever the outcome, they remain dedicated to achieving better opportunities for residents and sustaining service delivery.
