The case concerning an incident in Oxford’s central area will proceed to trial in approximately two years.
Three individuals have faced legal proceedings in connection with an assault on a man along Queen Street.
Tiago Soares Almeida, Florentino Dos Santos, and Benjamin Pereira were brought before Oxford Crown Court recently.
Soares Almeida, aged 31 and residing at Underhill Circus in Headington; Dos Santos, aged 28 from Havelock Road in Oxford; and Pereira, aged 30 living on Edgecombe Road in Headington, face charges relating to events that occurred on February 20 this year on Queen Street.
The three defendants, who had a Tetum interpreter assisting them during proceedings, were accused of assaulting Evencio Rivaldo Fernandes.
Dos Santos admitted responsibility for one count of section 18 causing grievous bodily harm while denying two allegations of carrying an offensive weapon in a public area.
Soares Almeida and Pereira both denied the section 18 accusation but acknowledged the lesser charge of section 20 actual bodily harm. They also contested the two counts relating to possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
The Crown did not accept the guilty pleas entered by Soares Almeida and Pereira, resulting in a trial being scheduled for March 27, 2028, with an expected duration of four to five days.
Sentencing for Dos Santos will occur following the conclusion of the trial. All three defendants were granted conditional bail.
