Work has commenced on a fresh initiative to deliver budget-friendly residences.
The plan occupies the western flank of Mill Lane within Old Marston and will deliver 80 economical units offered via social leasing and part-purchase arrangements. The accommodation will encompass houses with two, three, and four bedrooms alongside flats comprising one and two bedrooms.
The scheme is being executed by OX Place, the housing enterprise operating under Oxford City Council.
Linda Smith, bearing responsibility for housing and community affairs within Oxford City Council, remarked that Oxford stands among the nation’s most costly areas for accommodation, rendering ventures of this nature vital. She explained that these 80 fresh homes will present more economical alternatives for local inhabitants, encompassing council-operated socially rented units, shared ownership routes to assist buyers in entering the property market, and energy-efficient components to lower energy bills. She added that their pledge involves erecting superior, ecologically responsible residences that harmonise with Old Marston’s historic and countryside setting.
Every home within the initiative will be either socially rented, customarily roughly 40 per cent of comparable private rental charges locally, or part-ownership units, permitting occupants to purchase a share of their dwelling.
The residences were conceived by BM3 Architects while building works fall to Howarth Contractors Limited.
The design seeks to mirror the character of the surrounding Old Marston locality through the inclusion of pale brick and stone facades, crimson and slate hued tiled coverings, wooden panelling, and dormer features.
Complementary touches including front gardens, modest stone boundaries, and hedgerows will aid integration with the surrounding area.

The homes will satisfy enhanced green standards, featuring insulation, photovoltaic panels, and air source heating systems as part of an environmentally-conscious design.
