The Conservative Party claimed a seat from the Liberal Democrats in the Vale of White Horse byelection.

Lee Evans won more than 45 percent of ballots in the Stanford contest held on Thursday 26 March, accumulating 666 votes.

The Liberal Democrats took second spot with 395 ballots, accounting for 27.2 percent of the total, while Reform finished third with 261 votes representing 18 percent.

Labour managed just 14 votes, falling below one percent of support, and the Greens secured roughly 8 percent with 115 votes. Participation reached 43.4 percent.

Mr Evans, who currently holds a position on the county council, said he was delighted and privileged to have been elected as the new district councillor for the Stanford ward. He said he was genuinely honoured by the confidence shown in him and would dedicate himself to serving local people on the district council.

Conservative leader Liam Walker said he was very happy for Cllr Lee Evans, who puts in tremendous effort as a county councillor and has now become a district councillor. He said he had been out supporting Lee that morning and it was evident the Liberal Democrats were concerned. He said they should be, as they are damaging Oxfordshire and residents quite rightly feel dissatisfied. He said only Conservative councillors are defending the interests of local people and scrutinising the Liberal Democrats, and that change is on its way.
