Officers provide update on Oxford road emergency incident

Published on

Emergency crews attended a major occurrence in Oxford on Thursday afternoon, with police subsequently releasing additional information about the event.

Multiple emergency services attended Hollow Way in the Cowley area of Oxford at around 1pm, with officials shutting the road on that day.

Considerable traffic delays were experienced in the area as police officers, Oxfordshire fire and rescue personnel, and paramedics handled the incident.

When approached for details during the occurrence, Thames Valley Police did not provide a statement. Over 24 hours later, a representative confirmed this concerned a mental health matter that has now been brought to a close, and no further specifics would be disclosed.

The representative indicated that the mental health episode has been resolved and that additional information would not be provided.

An official from Oxfordshire County Council was also reached about the fire and rescue service’s participation but offered no comment.

Witnesses observed emergency workers in the area of Ivy Close for several hours. The street leads off from Hollow Way and is located next to Hollow Way Medical Centre.

One person reported seeing police officers speaking through a letter box but was not aware of the particular circumstances.

The road closure disrupted bus services, with Stagecoach diverting all routes 10 and 600 via the bypass.

The transport operator indicated that passengers should anticipate delays to these services and that further updates would be provided.
