A popular TV presenter living close to Dame Mary Berry has offered glimpses into who she really is as a person.

The culinary legend acted as a judge on the hit baking show during its BBC years between 2010 and 2016, before the programme shifted to Channel 4.

Since 2019, the nonagenarian has called Henley in southern Oxfordshire home, where she lives with her husband Paul Hunnings.

According to The Mirror, the famous chef’s true character has now been revealed by a notable neighbour.

The national newspaper reports that broadcaster Vernon Kay lives in the Beaconsfield district and regularly crosses paths with the celebrated food author.

During his BBC Radio 2 appearance this week, the 51-year-old presenter said he sometimes bumps into Mary Berry locally. He noted that she belongs to their neighbourhood, or they belong to hers, and described her as wonderfully pleasant and genuinely iconic.

The Mirror pointed out that Vernon declined to name the precise village during his radio chat, though earlier coverage suggested Mary previously occupied a Grade II-protected property in the village of Penn for more than thirty years.

Nonetheless, it appears Mary has been living in Henley-on-Thames, a town on the southern bank of the River Thames in south Oxfordshire, together with husband Paul J.M. Hunnings since 2019.

Penn lies approximately nine minutes by car from Beaconsfield, whereas Henley-on-Thames is somewhat further at around 28 minutes’ driving distance, indicating Mary and Vernon stay within approximately 30 miles of each other.
