Air services were grounded and workers lost their positions after eight travel companies failed in recent months.
A coach and travel enterprise from Oxfordshire features among the carriers and travel businesses that have ceased operations or discontinued routes since autumn 2025.
This wave of closures has resulted in vacation plans being scrapped and consumers pursuing refunds and compensation in certain situations.
Oxfordshire Travel Limited, which provided coach and passenger road transport services and was originally established in Yarnton near Kidlington, entered creditors’ voluntary liquidation on 30 October 2025, after company directors determined the business could no longer operate viably or settle its liabilities.
Companies House documentation indicates the enterprise, established in 2015 and categorised under other passenger land transport activities, subsequently relocated its registered headquarters to Tugby Orchards in Leicestershire prior to the appointment of liquidators.
In January 2026, London-based Regen Central Ltd, an ATOL-licensed travel agency offering flight-and-hotel combinations to European and Southeast Asian destinations, had its ATOL removed on 13 January and subsequently entered liquidation, with every booking annulled.
The Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that Regen Central had stopped operating as an ATOL holder, meaning it could no longer market financially-protected holidays.
Just weeks afterwards, Simply Florida Travel Ltd, a Glasgow-based agency focusing on North American journeys, including Disneyland, New York, Toronto, Niagara Falls and Miami, ceased trading after requesting removal from the Companies House register in late 2025.
The company, which had sold ATOL-protected experiences, was dissolved in early January 2026 and removed as an ATOL holder.
This prompted the cancellation of all remaining flights and packages, with holidaymakers seeking refunds.
Coach-tour operator Gold Crest Holidays also entered liquidation in early 2026, with every UK and international coach holiday cancelled.
Industry reports on the situation indicated that employees were made redundant when the company stopped trading.
Several other travel businesses, including Asiara UK Ltd, Jetline Travel Ltd, Great Little Escapes LLP and New Era Travel, have also closed or been dissolved since 2025.
The Civil Aviation Authority has listed them among companies that have either lost ATOL protection or stopped operating.
Icelandic budget carrier PLAY Airlines suspended all services in late September 2025, with the UK Civil Aviation Authority confirming that the Reykjavik-based low-cost airline had ceased operations and that every flight operated by PLAY was cancelled.
Reports of the collapse indicate that roughly 400 PLAY staff members are losing their employment due to the shutdown.
This has all provided the context for numerous UK flights being cancelled in recent weeks as a result of the continuing conflict in the Middle East.
