A major regeneration project in Woodstock has seen the completion of dozens of new affordable homes.
Housing association Cottsway has finished constructing 37 contemporary apartments designed for residents aged 55 and over on Flemings Road, taking the place of an older sheltered housing development.
The improved development includes larger one and two-bedroom flats with private balconies, up-to-date fixtures, and environmentally sustainable features such as photovoltaic panels, heat pump systems, and electric vehicle charging facilities.
Cottsway chief executive Richard Reynolds expressed his satisfaction at finishing this latest regeneration scheme, highlighting the organisation’s dedication to offering secure, well-built homes that meet the expectations residents deserve.
He noted particular pleasure in being able to offer these homes at social rent levels, approximately 60 percent of open market values.
This approach would create chances for individuals in housing need who cannot afford to purchase or rent properties at standard market rates, which is essential in a town where costs are particularly elevated.
The project received a £4.07 million grant from Homes England alongside Cottsway’s own financial contribution, with the housing association collaborating with Feltham Construction Ltd to fully redevelop the location.
Construction commenced in June 2024 following an assessment that concluded redevelopment represented the optimal solution for the site.
Nineteen homes originally constructed during the 1950s and 1960s were cleared to accommodate the new development.
Reynolds expressed gratitude to local residents for their patience throughout the building phase.
He acknowledged the local community for their patience and understanding during construction, Homes England for their significant grant funding that made the project viable, and Feltham Construction for their close partnership in delivering these much-needed new affordable homes.
He expressed hope that new residents would be very happy in their accommodation.
All units are offered at social rent levels and occupants will be moving in shortly.
Feltham Construction Ltd construction director Simon Lampard stated that it had been a pleasure to collaborate with Cottsway again and deliver quality affordable housing for those who require it.
He highlighted the company’s pride in its work and his pride in the team’s efforts and innovation in completing the scheme to excellent standards, ensuring everything progressed smoothly and keeping local residents informed throughout.
The apartments are spread across four blocks, named Ballard House, Grierson House, Marshall House, and Shelmerdine House after four writers who have authored historical publications about Woodstock.
Cottsway operates as the primary social housing provider in West Oxfordshire, with a portfolio of almost 6,000 properties.
