Jeremy Clarkson has expressed optimism about improving relations with the local council following a favourable ruling regarding his establishment.
The 65-year-old ex-Presenter of Top Gear and The Grand Tour secured planning consent from West Oxfordshire District Council recently for additional overflow parking facilities at his tavern.
Clarkson acquired The Farmer’s Dog, located off the A40 in Asthall close to Burford, in 2024 for approximately £1m, and began welcoming guests during the summer months of that year.
His Amazon Prime programme Clarkson’s Farm documented the apparently challenging launch of the venue for the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Unlike his Diddly Squat Farm Shop, The Farmer’s Dog has not experienced comparable planning disputes with the local authority.
The fresh overflow car park occupies agricultural land neighbouring the popular drinking establishment along the A40 in Asthall, near Burford, with planners contending that current parking provisions proved insufficient.
The council stated that given the exceptional circumstances of this specific application and considering the evident immediate need for off-site parking, the public advantages of granting temporary approval were deemed to outweigh the associated drawbacks.
Responding to the outcome on social media, Clarkson indicated his hope that this would foster a more harmonious working relationship after years of friction with the council.
