A sailing initiative designed to be open to everyone is set to launch soon after securing fresh financial support.

The Oxford Sail Training Trust has been chosen as one of the first recipients of Airbnb’s Best of British Fund, obtaining £25,000 to expand sailing opportunities for adults and children with disabilities.

More than 20 small businesses and organisations received money through this £1million scheme, which was established in collaboration with Visit Britain.

Jeremy Sharp, grant manager at the Oxford Sail Training Trust, expressed enthusiasm about the recognition from Airbnb and the funding received. The money will provide immediate, concrete benefits for the local community, allowing the trust to acquire an accessible powerboat that will give many more people the chance to experience the freedom of being on the water. Without this backing, the project would not have been possible, and the team is tremendously enthusiastic about what lies ahead.

The Best of British Fund backs hospitality and tourism experiences that highlight the distinctive character and heritage of the United Kingdom.

The Oxford Sail Training Trust was chosen in the Nature and Outdoors classification.

The investment will fund the acquisition of a Wheelyboat, a powerboat modified for wheelchair users, and will also assist the trust in working towards a Royal Yachting Association Qualification.

Luke Impett, senior manager for partnerships and external affairs at Airbnb UK, explained that through the Best of British Fund, the company is pleased to support the communities preserving these traditions while helping them develop their visitor offerings sustainably. By drawing more guests, tourism can continue sustaining local employment, independent enterprises and the families at the core of these destinations. This spending aims to draw attention to the individuals and locations that make Britain distinctive and enable more travellers to encounter that authenticity.

The Oxford Sail Training Trust aims to make watersports available to individuals of all ages and capabilities through customised, high-quality programmes.

Its method concentrates on developing skills, self-assurance and cooperation while upholding rigorous safety and teaching standards.

Airbnb’s Best of British Fund was introduced last year to strengthen the United Kingdom’s hospitality sector, which accounts for over half of all job losses across the country during the previous year.

Each successful project will now proceed with implementing their plans.
