A fresh investment management platform has emerged to address shortcomings in the property sector.
Bidwells Investment Management (BIM), a Financial Conduct Authority-authorised platform designed to fill gaps in the UK property investment landscape, was unveiled by property consultancy Bidwells this week.
BIM will concentrate on clients who want hands-on, transparent oversight that sits between conventional advisory services and the larger, template-driven platforms.
Robert Leadbetter, partner at Bidwells and head of investment management at BIM, stated that the platform was created because the property investment landscape is undergoing significant transformation. He noted that how individuals and organisations utilise property is changing rapidly, and recognising this evolution is crucial for achieving superior returns. He added that professional investors looking for sector-specific expertise are not well-served at present, and BIM was established to bridge that gap by offering knowledgeable, bespoke, and regulated guidance to professional clients.
BIM began operations with £1.2 billion in assets and 19.7 million square feet of managed space.
The firm’s inaugural projects involved advising Trinity College Cambridge on purchasing 2-8 Eastcheap, a mixed-use property in the City of London, through a partnership with Greycoat. BIM assisted Trinity with crafting the investment approach and arranging and completing the transaction, including establishing the joint venture. The platform also provided counsel on Trinity College Cambridge divesting its lease of the O2 Centre in London.
Bidwells initially purchased the centre for Trinity in 2009 and transformed it into a long-term income-generating asset through lease renegotiations. BIM helped with the strategic assessment prior to the disposal, culminating in the August 2025 sale.
Mr Leadbetter noted that Bidwells has overseen endowment funds for almost two hundred years, and BIM enables the firm to share that knowledge, investment rigour, and cross-asset capability with a considerably broader client base.
Bidwells has extensive experience handling investment assets for endowment capital, especially for Cambridge collegiate institutions.
The company now intends to broaden its reach through BIM to include private wealth managers and family offices, UK and overseas investors, institutions wanting specialist British exposure, and landowners wishing to enhance their asset and portfolio oversight.
BIM leverages Bidwells’ capabilities in development, asset management, capital markets, planning, and specialist sector knowledge.
The FCA-authorised setup permits BIM to deliver regulated services such as structuring joint ventures, establishing corporate entities, and advising on indirect property investments.
BIM functions as an appointed representative of Langham Hall Fund Management LLP, which holds authorisation and regulation from the Financial Conduct Authority.
