An Oxfordshire emergency service has urged drivers to steer clear of alcohol before getting behind the wheel as Britain approaches the summer season.

With brighter conditions expected from this Sunday (March 22), the county’s fire and rescue service has called on road users to refrain from operating vehicles after consuming alcoholic drinks.

A representative stated that consuming alcohol prior to driving severely hampers safe driving capabilities and dramatically raises the likelihood of causing a crash, with the risk that individuals could lose their lives or sustain serious harm. Motorists should avoid drinking and driving to prevent incarceration.

Official figures from the Department for Transport recorded 260 fatalities in incidents linked to drink-driving throughout 2023.

Westminster has put forward a proposal to reduce the drink-driving threshold in England and Wales from 80mg to 50mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.
