A dispute has emerged regarding the type of snake discovered in an Oxfordshire settlement.

A massage therapist from Eynsham named Richard Claughton encountered a serpent during a jog close to Chilbridge Road in the village.

He shared footage of the creature moving along the ground, which has now attracted more than 30,000 views.

He stated that the creature was basking in the sunshine in Eynsham, and he had come across it quite by accident during his 5km run just along Chilbridge Lane through the fields.

He believes it was an Adder, measuring just under one metre in length, and received a hiss when he began filming. He has always been intrigued by reptiles, though his wife finds them deeply unsettling.

While many viewers expressed enthusiasm about the clip, others questioned whether it was truly an adder, suggesting it was probably a grass snake instead.

One social media user declared it was absolutely a grass snake and that he should consider himself fortunate.

Another individual pointed out the yellow collar visible around its neck as evidence of a grass snake.

A third user noted that adders typically display a V-shaped marking on their skull.

Grass snakes inhabit regions across England and Wales, are harmless and tend to avoid human contact.
