Three Oxford leisure centres launch fitness classes for people on weight loss medication

Published on

A fresh initiative has been introduced to assist individuals who are prescribed weight loss drugs.

The programme is being introduced at three recreational facilities throughout Oxford for those taking GLP-1 treatments including Ozempic and Semaglutide.

Leisure Solutions Community Trust (LSCT), which manages five leisure sites on behalf of Oxford City Council, has brought in the support scheme.

The initiative aims to provide specialist exercise advice created specifically for individuals on weight loss medication.

Sarah Berne, health and wellbeing manager for Serco Leisure, which runs the centres alongside LSCT, explained that as more people turn to weight loss medications, the service intends to help customers shed pounds safely while preserving muscle tissue. She noted that although GLP-1 drugs can aid weight reduction, physical activity stays vital, and this programme gives customers access to qualified instructors capable of helping them sustain strength, self-assurance and general wellbeing.

The service operates at Barton Leisure Centre, Leys Pools and Leisure Centre, and Ferry Leisure Centre.

Visitors can arrange appointments via the Oxford City Leisure website.

Oxford City Councillor Chewe Munkonge stated that this fresh provision delivered by LSCT will assist individuals taking weight loss medication in remaining active and achieving their fitness objectives. He expressed his satisfaction that this service offers additional help for those who require it.

Every centre will feature an instructor with specific training to support GLP-1 medication users.

The initiative prioritises developing muscle and promoting sustainable weight reduction.
