Aureus School Year 9-10 pupils learn respect and Army career pathways from outreach team

Published on

Pupils at a school in Didcot explored ideas around mutual regard and collaborative working during a visit from the British Army Outreach and Careers Team.

The delegation travelled to Aureus School to engage with students in Years 9 and 10 about professional standards and potential career routes.

The assembly, arranged by the school’s Careers Lead Amy King, centred on the significance of showing respect within work settings and how this influences collaborative efforts and dialogue.

Amy King explained that the session addressed what respect entails in employment contexts, how it impacts team dynamics, and its importance in professional settings.

The guests conducted a presentation and facilitated conversations with pupils about respectful behaviour, communication methods, and workplace etiquette.

They additionally discussed entry routes into military service and the variety of positions on offer.

They also outlined the joining procedure for five Year 10 pupils who are planning to attend an overnight workplace placement with the Army in June.

This initiative forms part of the school’s continuing careers education scheme and has become an established part of its annual programme.

Amy King noted that meeting people from industry assists pupils in comprehending what is expected at work, expanding their knowledge of career options, and building important skills sought by employers.

Such workshops also afford pupils the opportunity to pose questions directly and obtain understanding of actual professional environments.
