Two men from Oxfordshire are getting ready to tackle individual 100km endurance events.
Eddy Webb and Brian Kemp, colleagues at the Travis Perkins outlet in Chipping Norton, both share a passion for demanding physical activities. They will take on their respective challenges on April 10 to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society, an organisation offering assistance to those living with dementia and their relatives.
Mr Webb intends to complete a 100km run, a distance spanning more than two marathons, while Mr Kemp will cover 100km by bicycle across challenging landscape.
Mr Webb explained that the idea emerged from their shared dedication to athletic pursuits. He runs frequently while Brian is a dedicated cyclist. They wanted to collect money for the Alzheimer’s Society, which they understand provides transformative help to individuals dealing with dementia. They considered this an ideal approach as it would allow fellow team members at the Chipping Norton Travis Perkins location to participate as well.
Mr Webb has spent a decade employed by Travis Perkins and hopes to complete the run within 12 hours. Mr Kemp, who manages the branch, aims to finish the cycling event in under five hours.
Their coworkers will provide encouragement and accompany them through various portions of the challenge to boost visibility for their endeavour.
Mr Webb noted that while he has previously participated in an ultramarathon, his longest single-day effort so far reached 58km, making this a considerable escalation. He intends to break his run into segments, with each one concluding back at the workplace. He has been covering substantial distances two or three times weekly to build up his stamina, though growing nearer to the event has left him feeling somewhat apprehensive. The landscape will add to the difficulty, as the area surrounding the branch features significant hills that will test both himself and Brian.
Hannah Pennock, a corporate account manager for the Alzheimer’s Society, expressed gratitude for Travis Perkins’ decision to support the organisation. She noted that every hour donated to fundraising, each event entered, and every contribution made creates a meaningful impact on those affected by dementia.
The duo hopes their efforts will motivate fellow workers, shoppers, and local residents to back the initiative and make contributions.
