A fresh Indian dining venue has launched on a Oxfordshire town’s main shopping street, with the local Member of Parliament performing the ceremonial opening.
Omera’s Restaurant held its first evening on Saturday, March 21, entertaining numerous local political figures and community members.
For almost four and a half decades, an establishment serving Indian cuisine has operated from this location on Witney’s principal commercial road, and Omera’s has taken over premises previously occupied by The Curry Paradise, which ceased trading at the close of 2025.
Previously, the enterprise operated solely as a delivery service, but it has now become a fully fledged dining establishment at number 39 High Street.
In footage published on the business’s social media channels, Witney’s parliamentary representative Mr Maynard and accompanying guests expressed their appreciation for the fare and extended a warm welcome to the independent enterprise.
The MP stated the cuisine is flavoursome, having recently sampled it himself, and urged everyone to visit the venue.
The parliamentarian noted it is a neighbourhood enterprise that has provided curry dishes from this address for extensive periods and expressed hope this would continue for many years to come.
Witney’s Deputy Mayor Jane Doughty expressed enthusiasm about welcoming one of the finest Indian dining establishments, describing the fare as superb and wonderful.
She commented it brings renewed energy to the commercial district and thanked the proprietors for choosing the high street, expressing admiration for the entire staff.
County and district councillor Liam Walker remarked that like numerous others, he enjoys a quality curry and was delighted to attend.
The councillor highlighted that the curry sector contributes approximately four to five billion pounds annually to the British economy and encouraged people to support independent enterprises and the local shopping area.
James Robertshaw, a local councillor residing on Witney High Street, described the cuisine as outstanding.
He emphasised the importance of patronising high street enterprises to enable their prosperity and invited people to visit Omera’s Restaurant.
The proprietors of Omera’s Restaurant expressed their dedication to the surrounding community and their pride in presenting authentic Indian cookery.
They stated they were delighted to restore the dining venue to its origins, providing genuine Indian fare within a more welcoming environment while maintaining strong ties to the local population.
They anticipated welcoming all visitors to Omera’s Restaurant both immediately and throughout the coming months.
Among the notable patrons of the previous Indian establishment at this location was former Prime Minister David Cameron, who has apparently declared his preferred curry originates from this Witney venue.
The establishment operates daily between midday and two in the afternoon, then from five until half past ten in the evening.
Its delivery service covers the wider West Oxfordshire region, reaching communities such as Carterton, Eynsham, Ducklington, Bampton, Minster Lovell and North Leigh.
