TRAFFIC INCIDENT ON M40

A single carriageway lane has been shut following a car fire on the M40 southbound between Junction 9 and Junction 8A.

The road is experiencing significant congestion.

AA UPDATE

The AA has reported that one lane remains shut because of a car fire on the M40 southbound between the A34 interchange at Bicester and the A418 junction near Oxford Services, Thame and Aylesbury. Traffic flow remains manageable.

According to the AA, motorists should expect approximately seven minutes of additional travel time, with congestion building on the M40 southbound between the A34 at Bicester and the A418 near Oxford Services, Thame and Aylesbury. Vehicles are moving at around ten miles per hour in the affected area.

FIRE SERVICE DETAILS

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service reported being alerted at 1:44pm, dispatching three fire engines to the M40 between Junction 9 and Junction 8A.

At the scene, a car had been completely burnt out. The hard shoulder and the first lane were sealed off as a safety measure.

Firefighters left the location at 2:41pm.

It has not yet been verified whether any injuries occurred.
