An investigation has been opened after a 12-year-old boy was reportedly attacked by another youth in a Banbury park.

Thames Valley Police confirmed it is examining the circumstances surrounding reports that a 12-year-old was struck in the face by an unidentified youngster.

The incident allegedly occurred on January 28 at approximately 1.15pm in People’s Park, Banbury.

A representative from the Cherwell division stated that officers are seeking witnesses following the event in People’s Park, Banbury, on January 28, 2026 at around 5.15pm.

The young victim was riding his bicycle through the park when he was approached by another boy who was accompanied by a friend.

He was ordered to dismount his bike and kneel on the ground before being struck in the face.

The victim is currently recovering, though the experience was understandably upsetting for a child.

Police have indicated that the person believed responsible is described as a white male aged between 12 and 13.

He is thought to stand approximately 5ft 12in tall, have a stocky build, possess black curly hair, and was dressed in a snug dark Nike tracksuit.

Officers believe members of the public were present in the park who may have observed the altercation or the individuals involved.
