A teenager from Witney is lacing up his running shoes for the London Marathon to honour family members he has lost.

Reuben Leather is collecting money for Cancer Research UK, aiming to reach a fundraising goal of £2,500.

He made a vow to his late grandmother that he would run the marathon in her honour.

In 2024, his Nan died after battling cancer, and Reuben committed to crossing the finish line for the charity in her memory.

His grandfather survived cancer four separate times, which the family found remarkable and inspirational.

The grandfather’s wife, Reuben’s grandmother, died from cancer before Reuben was born.

Reuben’s aunt, Claire Painting, told people the family feels tremendous pride in his efforts.

She explained that three grandparents were lost to the disease, and Reuben is determined to help the charity support others in their honour.

The marathon is scheduled for 2026, and Reuben has already tackled the Brighton Marathon as part of his preparation.

He noted that statistically half of all people will develop cancer at some point, so supporting the charity could significantly improve survival prospects.

He thanked supporters for helping him keep his final promise to his Nan and said he hopes to finish in three hours and 30 minutes.
