First look at Harry Potter TV show reveals Dominic McLaughlin as young wizard

Published on

US broadcaster HBO has shared an initial glimpse of the upcoming Harry Potter television adaptation, hinting at a significant reveal coming this week.

In the photograph, the young wizard is seen heading toward the Hogwarts Quidditch arena dressed in a red and gold Gryffindor robe that displays his last name.

The eagerly awaited programme will feature Dominic McLaughlin in the part that shot Daniel Radcliffe to fame.

Every series from HBO will faithfully retell the novels by JK Rowling, who serves as an executive producer.

A message posted on the official Harry Potter Instagram account shows Harry seen from behind as he walks toward the arena, trailing behind numerous other pupils.

Large banners representing the houses Gryffindor and Hufflepuff adorn the exterior of the sports field.

The hooded garment he wears features his surname together with the number seven.

The caption reads simply Tomorrow, accompanied by a lightning bolt symbol, suggesting additional details about the production are on the way.

Not shown in the image are Arabella Stanton playing Hermione and Alastair Stout portraying Ron.

The three young performers were chosen for the principal roles following an audition process that attracted approximately 32,000 applicants, with casting directors examining as many as 1,000 submissions daily.

Further casting announcements include Nick Frost as the approachable groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Professor Severus Snape and American actor John Lithgow taking on the role of Hogwarts headmaster Professor Albus Dumbledore.

Ozark star Janet McTeer will portray Professor Minerva McGonagall, while British theatre performer Luke Thallon has been cast as the primary villain from the first book, Quirinus Quirrell. Welsh comedian and actor Paul Whitehouse will play Argus Filch, the non-magical caretaker of the school.

Warwick Davis is going back to Hogwarts to perform his film role as Professor Filius Flitwick.

The programme is scheduled to debut on the HBO Max streaming platform in Britain during 2027.

The wizarding world has strong ties to Oxford, with the city and Oxford University serving as filming sites for the original cinematic series.

Christ Church College’s staircase and cloisters, alongside its Great Hall, provided the visual inspiration for the Hogwarts dining room and appeared in the films.

The Bodleian Library’s Duke Humfrey’s Library also served as the Hogwarts library, including the restricted area.

Furthermore, the Divinity School was featured in multiple scenes, including the dance instruction sequence with Professor McGonagall, portrayed by Dame Maggie Smith, who was raised in Oxford.
