Miriam Margolyes has discussed her health struggles, admitting she cannot walk very well.

The performer, who spent her childhood in Oxford, has become a familiar face to international audiences through her portrayal of Professor Sprout in multiple Harry Potter movies.

Recognised for her character work across cinema, broadcast, and theatre, she earned the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress for playing Mrs Mingott in Martin Scorsese’s 1993 production, The Age of Innocence.

Another of her notable performances was as Mother Mildred in the enduring BBC series, Call the Midwife.

Margolyes is currently appearing in Holy Days alongside Judy David and Jacki Weaver, under the direction of Nat Boltt.

Regarding her young fellow cast member, Elijah Tamati, she informed Original Cin that she would say that, for this film, Elijah was a sweetheart, and he was very caring with her.

She noted that she is in her 80s, cannot walk very well, is old and fat, and reaching the car door was difficult, and winding the windows up and down was hard.

She added that he was a dear little lad, and she is very grateful that he and his mother were absolute treasures, so it was very easy.

Holy Days is scheduled to open in North America this week, having previously launched in its homeland of New Zealand last month.

According to the movie’s synopsis, accompanied by a young boy, three unconventional nuns embark on a wild and chaotic road trip across New Zealand to retrieve the deeds to their convent.

When an unexpected snowstorm derails their journey, they soon find themselves confronting loss, mortality and the transformative power of love, forgiveness and connection.
