Blenheim Palace gardens bursting with spring colour

A traditional property in Oxfordshire is marking National Gardening Week with vibrant displays and refreshed outdoor designs.

The grounds are celebrating the transition into spring and summer through an array of horticultural activities and fresh planting schemes, available from April 27 until May 3.

Visitors can discover a restored Secret Garden showcasing hellebores, epimediums, and rhododendrons.

A newly created stump garden trail brings a dramatic, prickly appearance through birch specimens, ferns, and creative sculptures carved from stumps.

The estate’s head gardener Andy Mills explained that the team’s work across the grounds focuses on creating sections that evolve attractively through the seasons while offering visitors new and distinctive encounters each year.

From the initial spring arrangements within the Secret Garden to the prominent structural alterations, this period emphasises building layers of visual appeal, wildlife diversity, and interaction.

National Gardening Week presents a perfect chance to acknowledge the team’s dedication and to inspire visitors with ideas suitable for their own gardens.

Other additions include recently planted groupings of spring-flowering bulbs across the estate, new specimens in the Arboretum, and red-barked willows situated beside water features.

A newly established line of ornamental crab apple trees links the Rose Garden with the Temple of Flora, paying tribute to the goddess of spring and flowers.

All three garden pavilions—Diana, Health, and Flora—are now open to visitors, allowing them to enter, rest, and admire the panoramic views from each structure.

Inside the Walled Garden section, forty recently planted fruit trees have been added, including traditional varieties such as Bloody Ploughman and Belle de Boskoop.
