A young man has been convicted of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in the vicinity of the Westgate retail complex.

Charlie Page from Faringdon targeted the child close to the Oxford shopping destination on January 8 the previous year, the court was informed.

The 19-year-old was convicted of rape and assault by penetration on August 21 after a trial concluded.

A majority decision of ten to two was reached.

A pre-sentence assessment has now been instructed to establish whether Page poses a risk to the public.

He will face sentencing at Oxford Crown Court on October 23 and remains in custody pending this.

Judge Hassan Khan expressed gratitude to the jury for their service throughout the proceedings.

During a police interview captured on video, the victim recounted that she observed he appeared intoxicated due to his unusual eye appearance.

She stated that he kissed her, an experience she found unwelcome.

The teenager further described how Page compelled her to engage in sexual activity while she was intoxicated and distressed.

She explained that Page questioned whether she was certain she wished to proceed, to which she responded negatively.

She mentioned that she was unsteady on her feet due to her level of intoxication.

She stated that he seized her and forced her to comply. She indicated she attempted to dismiss the incident and distance herself from him.

She reported that he issued a threat of violence should she disclose what had occurred.
