A public consultation has commenced regarding proposals for 200 additional residences in Banbury following revisions to the original application.
Oxford’s Trinity College is seeking approval to construct as many as 200 dwellings on agricultural land within the Oxfordshire town.
The planning application has been filed with Cherwell District Council through Savills acting on behalf of the university college.
The proposed development area spans roughly 11.12 hectares and lies west of the B4100 road, approximately 3.5 kilometres to the north-west of Banbury’s town centre.
The college previously obtained outline consent for 320 homes at a separate location designated as Roman Field, situated to the south of this latest proposal.
Construction work at that site remains underway.
An adjacent parcel of land positioned to the east received planning authorisation for 170 residences following an appeal decision reached in 2024.
Reserved matters relating to the current scheme were filed in September 2025.
Under the latest proposals for 200 dwellings, a minimum of 30 percent would comprise affordable units.
Within this affordable provision, 70 percent would be allocated to affordable rental properties while the remaining 30 percent would take the form of shared ownership arrangements.
Access for vehicles would be provided via a new priority junction connecting with Warwick Road.
The design incorporates a three-metre combined pedestrian and cycling path along the southern edge, alongside a fresh link to the existing public right of way network.
A minimum 10 percent biodiversity net gain is included in the scheme, accompanied by approximately 3.5 hectares of accessible open space.
This green area would feature three dedicated play zones, allotment plots, and either a community garden or orchard, creating connections between the development and surrounding green infrastructure.
Members of the public have until October 8 to share their comments on the proposals.
