A neighbourhood policing unit in Witney has been equipped with an electric bicycle to assist with patrols throughout the area.
The Witney Neighbourhood Policing Team took delivery of the e-bike following approval of a £1,000 discretionary grant by Witney Town Council.
The initiative aims to strengthen engagement with local residents, reduce response times to incidents and contribute to improved public safety across the town.
Speaking on behalf of the council, Councillor Thomas Ashby, who chairs the stronger communities committee, acknowledged the essential role played by the local neighbourhood policing officers.
He described the electric bicycle as a valuable resource that would enable police constables and Police Community Support Officers to maintain a higher profile throughout Witney while expanding the geographical reach of their patrols.
The scheme is also intended to foster more direct communication between officers and members of the public across all neighbourhoods.
Councillor Ruth Smith, who leads the council, noted that the bicycle represented a practical acquisition that also aligned with environmental considerations.
She observed that the Neighbourhood Policing Team would benefit from enhanced mobility, allowing officers to navigate the town more efficiently than would be possible using conventional methods.
